RAVES Self Defence for Schools

RAVES HAS DELIVERED TO OVER 42 BRISBANE SCHOOLS
 in 14 years

The RAVES program provides strategies for both primary schools and high schools in tackling aggressive and sensitive situations such as: playground bullying, grooming, abductions to developing healthy outlets for rage all the way up the age spectrum to sexual assault, domestic violence, and one punch attacks.

RAVES provides positive programming to achieve emotional resilience, self esteem and social conscience.  Because both teachers and parents can't be with out kids all the time, but we can teach them how to be safe most of the time...

How do we tackle these really sensitive topics for kids agree 3-10?

Erin has developed an A.S.D. friendly book called Surviving Earth: A Guide for Earth Beings that safely introduces young children to concepts like:
  • calling out bad behaviours
  • developing a group of trusted adults
  • and simple physical strategies for rough behaviour all the way to attempted abductions

Kids then get up and use their new super human moves!
You really have to see this fun, play environment to believe it is actually teaching serious physical and neurological strategies:
  • What to do if grabbed by a stranger?
  • What to do if locked in a car boot?
  • What to do if someone hurts your friend?
  • What if someone you know is hurting you?
  • And other cool BRAVE KIDS stuff.

We are A.S.D. friendly:
- short class time
- repetitive strategies
- emotional intelligence strategies
- active learning
- adult expectations left at the door

RAVES for TEENS

RAVES recognises that it is hard for teachers to deal with this really sensitive stuff and that is where we can help.

Your teens may be surprised to know that punching and kicking isn't a form of self defence, in fact, they are more likely to end up seriously injured - or worse.  Learn from a former detective and operation Queensland Police Officer and get the A.B.C.'s on how not to freeze...

Here is what RAVES session timings might look like:
  • Vocalisation and boundary setting habit sentences (essential 10 mins).
  • Rules of self defence and criminal code right to self defence and consent (essential 10 mins).
  • Defence against strangulation (10minutes).
  • Defence against rear attack (10 mins).
  • Defence against front attack/ being dragged (15 mins).
  • Defence when thrown to ground/ sexual assault (20 mins).
  • Defence for car abduction and kidnappings (10 mins).
  • Defence against weapons (20 mins).
  • Minimal contact partner drills (safe for all) with risk management briefing (10 minutes)
  • Communication and brain hacks for aggressive behaviours (50 minute session)

A practical session covering all basic strategies is approximately 1.5 hours without breaks or questions.

Our programs also cater for A.S.D. teens.

If you are under time constraints for a 50 minute teaching session, ask for a quote for a customised personal protection pre or post workbook to support personal protection theory, actual violence statistics as opposed to perceptions of violence, and the ability for students to ask questions to personalise their personal protection journey with diary entries and question tabs.

ASPLEY SHS Grade 8 CAMP TEENS RAVES PROGRAM
It was well paced and tremendously well presented. Some highlights that I particularly enjoyed include;
- The opening relaxation techniques (A couple of the normally over-animated boys in my Year 8 Form class literally fell asleep)
- The interesting philosophy about the needs of young women to respect and support other females
- The encouragement to the students to exercise and volunteer in their community
- The statistics on offences...
- The techniques for self-defence.
Erin's good humour, awesome connection with youth culture and sensitivity when needed, truly inspired and educated me. In fact I would say the program felt like a 'gift' that I would recommend as a PD for teachers or for more of our students to enjoy. As a mother and grandmother, I would truly be happy to pay to have had my daughter or grand daughter do this course.

How wonderful we thought RAVE was...   It was so powerful, so important, and a real confidence booster for those girls.  I would value working with RAVES again... It was the highlight of the Year 8 Sleepover.

My friend and I were taught some great skills and had a lot of fun - such a serious topic but we had lots of laughs.  Erin is amazing -  she is warm and friendly and is really knowledgeable and experienced,  I did this years ago and am glad I did it again - my friend and I are going to try and do this yearly to keep it fresh in our minds.
